At the end of 2019, after a period of analysis and consultation with local stakehol-
ders (30 small-scale fishermen, 8 diving companies, and recreational fishermen),
the Roc de Brescou Marine Reserve was established. 310 hectares (5% of the MPA)
are now under strict protection (no fishing, diving, anchoring, or dredging), with
a boat dedicated to surveillance and scientific monitoring. This is a major step
forward for the full protection of 45% of the MPA's coralligenous reefs. The decision
is subject to review every 6 years.
